Do you ever wonder about Indian spices and which ones to use in a curry? What are they? What do they taste of? How do you cook with them?
Every region of the Indian subcontinent has its own cuisine and the curry of that area has its own distinctive flavour made up of a mixture of a few key spices. Scotia Spice’s founder Yasmin grew up in a home full of the warm comforting aromas of Punjabi cooking, she will take you through a spice tasting so that you can understand how the classic Punjabi spices work on your palate and combine with each other. Its good fun as well as informative and understanding these spices is vital to making Punjabi curries.
Growing up Yasmin ate all kinds of food in her home, but the fragrant curries and comforting dahls, linger in her memory. She’ll demonstrate how to make her gran’s dhal cooked simply and spiced as it has been for generations, it’s the best
kind of one-pot cooking.
On this workshop, you will:
- Learn about the classic Punjabi spices that Yasmin grew up with
- Discover how they taste on your palate and how they combine.
- Watch a demonstration of how to cook a traditional Punjabi dhal using the spices you have tasted.
- Enjoy a traditional Pujabi dahl for lunch with Yasmin
Scotia Spice’s founder Yasmin grew up in a home full of the warm comforting aromas of Punjabi cooking. In 2006 she opened the doors to her kitchen setting up her cookery school. Showing people how easy it is to make her food in their
own homes is something she cares deeply about.
